Laura's review - Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

Oct 29, 2013 Skincare 8 Comments

The arrival of this little pot in the post caused me some excitement. I am somewhat obsessed with smoothing, scrubbing, micro derma-brasing, pore reducing, and generally pampering my face or else I wouldn’t be writing for Skin Scrubs!

My all time favourite micro dermabrasion product has to be Boots’ No 7, it leaves my skin silky smooth (although I always use it before going to bed otherwise I would spend the day looking like I had spent too much time in the sun!).

However, to bring my rambling back to the point, this Dermalogica product caught my attention, and of course, I had to try it right away! It was not what I expected. The pot opens to reveal a talcum powder-like arrangement where you shake the dry power onto your wet hands, rub them together, then smear the resulting paste all over your face…

Dermalogica Microfoliant Powder

Strange Scent & Texture

The first thing I noticed was the smell – it was like the smell of the soap I remember from school toilets. Not entirely pleasant, but I continued nonetheless. The texture / colour was like watered down polyfilla. I expected it to be quite scrubby in texture, but it almost seemed to disappear as I rubbed it in. Nor did my face feel very smooth once I had rinsed it off, and I then had to use my regular face wash anyway to get rid of the smell!

Like I have said before, I like these kind of products to feel like they are working, or at least smell nice if they don’t! This did neither. Dermalogica is not a range I have ever used before, and I was quite excited about trying it. To me this product was a big disappointment, and I’ll be sticking to my old faithful No. 7 in future!

I’ve just started using this too and I really like it. I haven’t noticed any smell with it, which now makes me think theres something wrong with my smell senses! ha. I found it left my skin really soft too.

*goes off to give it a whiff*

Jo have you tried Hello Glow? It is similar to Dermalogica but it does smell nicer and it’s cheaper!

I had heard such good things about this product, and when I tried it, I too was disappointed – I can’t put my finger on why, but I think it’s because I had such high expectations. I have a very bad sense of smell, so afraid I can’t comment on that!

Hmmm… I think I do have quite a sensitive sense of smell. I always seem to be able to smell things other people can’t – which is not always good! So it could be that my hyper-sensitive nose has over-smelled it! I really didn’t notice much difference to my skin after using it, but then I do like my scrubby products which leave my face feeling super smooth, so this one might just be too subtle for me. I haven’t given up on Dermalogica. I’m happy for them to change my mind :)

I know! It’s a brand I’ve always wanted to try. Still, there are plenty of other products in their range. There must be good ones in there! :) They do a dermal clay cleanser which looks fab!

I’m also a No. 7 Microdermabrasion evangelist! Anything else I’ve tried has never come close. Good to know another one to avoid!

I’m definitely with you Kat! I picked it up as an item to make up a 3 for 2 offer they had on, and have never looked back!
