He’s got a Tobey Maguire thing going on here don’t cha think?

Happy Saturday Chicas! For those of you who don’t know who this fine young man is, let me introduce you to men’s grooming blogger Michael aka The Chap. You can also find him hanging around Twitter and You Tube too. I’ve posed a few questions to him so we can all to get know this grooming blogger a little better.

You say on your About page that you were inspired to write your own beauty/grooming blog after guest posting for someone else. What is it about writing about grooming products that you enjoy so much? Have you always tried new things or has that come from being a blogger?

I just love to try new products! Guys always complain they don’t like to shave, they stink, their skins bad etc. and I just love helping out with these issues. Before The Chap Blog I liked to use different products but I only got them at Christmas or my Birthday; otherwise I stuck with the same products. I’ve learnt so much about just looking after myself since starting The Chap Blog. I feel a lot more confident about my appearance.

You also say on your About page that you started blogging when you took voluntary redundancy. Did you ever imagine how much time blogging would take up? Do you have a blogging schedule or post when you get the time?

I had an idea of the time it can take before I started, however it was still a shock once it went live! It’s like a full time job and one I really enjoy doing. With out my blog I wouldn’t be doing the things I do now, I feel very lucky of the opportunities that have opened up for me. I’ve meet some wonderful people and been to some great events. Whilst I was unemployed it was great to keep me busy and It’s also great to put on your CV. Blogging brings a whole load of skills like liaising and negotiating with companies, PR’s and also freelance work has gone my way. I don’t like to schedule posts, I much prefer to want to write a post; I just think it comes across a little forced if you’re not having fun and don’t want to write.

Do your family and friends read your blog? What did they think the first time you told them you were blogging about grooming products? Do you think being a male blogger in a female dominated field gives you an advantage?

I don’t think my family read it. I don’t even think they understand apart from my sister who writes her own blog, a lot of it goes over their head. I don’t think it’s an advantage at all, however the majority of my followers are female! I put that down to husbands and boyfriends relying on their wives and girlfriends to buy them their products. It’s great to have so many people read my blog, I never imagined it being as popular as it is.

Michael is very versatile, here he’s rocking the Vince Vaughn look!

Your You Tube channel is quite popular, one your videos about how to shave with straight razor has had 7,166 views! How does that make you feel and what made you start doing videos?

Has it really? I’ve not checked in ages. That’s amazing to be honest, I don’t have many followers but WOW! I don’t know why I started videos and I sometimes struggle to think of things to say or show. It just seemed like a good idea at the time.

Okay you’re a good looking single guy, let’s say we are out on date. Am I going to be paranoid about my appearance all evening because you interact with loads of attractive female beauty bloggers? Do you think women in general worry to much about how they look?

You would have no need to be paranoid, I’m just an average Joe, and a one woman guy (when I do have a girlfriend). Totally useless when it comes to girls and wouldn’t recognise if a girl fancies me. Ha, probably why I’m still single! Girls do worry to much and I can understand why when there are so many magazines telling ladies what they should look like. It’s a shame, you should just be who you are!

Lastly and sorry if this sounds like a job interview question, but where do you see your blog going? How will you know when it’s time to stop or do you imagine your writing will continue even if it’s another subject?

I have no idea where I see my blog going really, I suppose I would like to see my blog make me an income, being self employed or at least having enough income to buy me treats would be great! I do it because it’s fun, and the day it stops being fun I will stop. If I stop I’ll stop for good and I won’t write about any other subjects. The Chap will be no more.

Thank you for answering my questions and letting me use your Movemember ‘tache photo! Also thanks to @TheBespokeBlog http://blog.bespokersvp.com/ and photographer Mel Bagshaw for permission to use the black and white image.
